Terry Farish

Terry Farish was attending the Texas Women’s University when she decided to sign up for the Red Cross’s Club Mobile Program, otherwise known as the “Donut Dollies.” Watching many of her male friends go to war, Farish felt a responsibility to go to Vietnam and support her friends. The Donut Dollies were required to be college educated and were helicoptered throughout Vietnam to various fire bases, landing zones, and areas of heavy combat to boost soldiers’ morale. Farish recounts the strangeness of her job (cheering up young men who had just watched their best friends die), her PTSD from her involvement in such a divisive war, and the ways she continues to cope with the war today.
