At his college graduation in 1966, Scott Wilson, Sr. watched Robert McNamara receive an honorary degree. Two years later, Wilson was on the USS Reaper, a minesweeper, off the coast of Mui Bui Bong fighting McNamara's war. Wilson completed Officer Candidate School with a specialization in minesweepers, and served on the USS Reaper for one year. In his conversation, Wilson recalls the immense responsibilities as a 22-year-old officer, his role in Operation Market Time (a mission in which the United States and South Vietnamese militaries worked to stop the flow of North Vietnamese troops and supplies via water transportation), and assimilating to civilian life after the war.
